SpaceX Launch Scrub Predictor: How DelayGuard Calculates Real-Time Scrub Probability

Something a Little Different
We built something a little different at delayguard.ai/launch-predictor.
It's not another flight prediction tool (though it uses the exact same DNA). It's our SpaceX Launch Scrub Predictor — a fully functional, real-time Easter egg that calculates the probability a SpaceX launch will be scrubbed.
No account required. No limits. Just pure, nerdy, data-driven fun.
What Is the SpaceX Launch Scrub Predictor?
The SpaceX Launch Scrub Predictor is a hidden page on DelayGuard that applies our proven AI risk-modeling approach to rocket launches instead of airplane departures.
Enter (or simply view) upcoming SpaceX missions — Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy, or Starship — and instantly see:
- A scrub probability percentage (e.g., "42% chance of scrub")
- Live breakdown of contributing risk factors
- Real-time updates powered by the same data sources we use for flights
It's the aviation delay predictor… but for launches.
We built it because weather, historical patterns, and strict go/no-go criteria don't just affect flights — they're even more critical for rockets. And because our community of frequent flyers and space enthusiasts kept asking for "something fun" that showcases what our model can really do.
How It Works
It mirrors the hybrid architecture behind every DelayGuard flight prediction:
- Live NOAA weather data — Same feeds we use for aviation, now applied to launch commit criteria (wind, visibility, cloud cover, lightning risk, upper-level winds, etc.).
- NASA's published Launch Commit Criteria (LLCC) — The official rules SpaceX and NASA use to decide whether conditions are "go" for launch.
- Historical scrub rates — Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy, and Starship scrub statistics by vehicle, pad, season, and time of day.
- Real-time updates — The page refreshes with the latest weather and criteria without you lifting a finger.
Just like our flight model (hybrid rule engine + XGBoost ML trained on nearly 4 million real flights), this tool blends deterministic criteria with statistical patterns for a calibrated probability.
Important disclaimer (same as flights): This is a statistical estimate for entertainment and educational purposes. It is not an official SpaceX or NASA prediction. Always check official sources for launch status.
Why We Built This
Our founder, airline pilot Matt van Arnhem, has spent thousands of hours watching weather systems and operational constraints create (or prevent) delays. That same mindset applies perfectly to space launches.
We wanted to:
- Show the transferable power of our AI approach beyond commercial aviation
- Give space fans and rocket watchers a data-driven toy they'll actually use
- Have a little fun while staying 100% on-brand with transparency and real data
- Create something shareable that introduces new people to DelayGuard
The result? A clean, fast, no-frills page that feels like a natural extension of the main product — just with rockets instead of regional jets.
What You'll See When You Visit
Head to delayguard.ai/launch-predictor and you'll get:
- A live list of upcoming SpaceX launches with instant scrub probabilities
- Clean probability gauges and risk factor breakdowns (weather, LLCC violations, historical analogs, etc.)
- A "Back to flights" link so you can jump straight back to checking your next trip
- Completely free — no signup, no paywall, no catch
It's deliberately lightweight and instant, just like our core flight predictions.
Why Scrub Prediction Matters
SpaceX has revolutionized launch cadence, but weather and technical constraints still cause scrubs. Historical data shows scrub rates vary significantly by:
- Vehicle (Falcon 9 is extremely reliable; Starship is still maturing)
- Launch site (Florida vs. California vs. Texas)
- Season and time of day
- Specific LLCC thresholds (especially lightning and upper winds)
Our tool surfaces exactly which factors are pushing the probability up or down in real time — the same philosophy we apply to explaining why your flight has a 68% delay risk instead of just giving you a number.
Pro tip: Use the launch predictor to geek out before a big Starlink or Crew mission, then use the main tool to see delay risk on your flight to watch the launch (or your connection home).

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Launch Scrub Predictor accurate? It's as accurate as the data and model allow — built the same careful way as our flight predictions. It's a statistical tool, not official mission control.
Does it predict technical scrubs or only weather? It primarily factors in weather and published LLCC, plus historical patterns that include technical and operational factors. Purely internal technical issues are inherently harder to predict in advance.
Is it free forever? Yes. No account needed. We built it as a gift to the community.
Can I use it for betting or serious decisions? Please don't. It's for fun and education. Always rely on official SpaceX/NASA sources for launch decisions.
Will you add more vehicles or international launches? We're starting with SpaceX (Falcon 9, Heavy, Starship) because that's where the data and public interest are strongest. More may come later.
DelayGuard predictions are statistical estimates only — not guarantees. Always verify with official sources before making travel or viewing decisions.
