Will my specific flight be cancelled?
Usually no, and no tool can promise it. In BTS data for 2024 and 2025, 1.41% of 14,080,680 scheduled US domestic flights were cancelled. DelayGuard shows the historical cancellation rate for your route, airline and month beside a delay prediction. That is a baseline, not a guarantee.
What is the US flight cancellation rate?
1.41% of 14,080,680 scheduled US domestic flights were cancelled in 2024 to 2025 (BTS), which is 199,191 flights. Diverted flights are counted as operated, not cancelled.
Which airline cancels the most flights?
Frontier Airlines, at 2.05% of scheduled flights in 2024 to 2025 (BTS). Southwest Airlines was lowest at 0.84%. Spirit Airlines ceased operations on May 2, 2026; its historical rate is not a current choice.
Which airports cancel the most flights?
In DelayGuard's BTS tables for 2024 to 2025, Reagan National (DCA) had the highest cancellation rate at 2.73% and Salt Lake City (SLC) the lowest at 0.57%.
Which month has the most cancellations?
January, at 3.27% of scheduled flights across the airports in DelayGuard's BTS tables (2024 to 2025). September was lowest at 0.50%.
When will I know if my flight is cancelled?
You find out when the airline does. No US rule sets a clock such as the night before departure. Under 14 CFR 259.8, a covered airline must publish a cancellation within 30 minutes after it becomes aware of it, when that change is inside seven days of the scheduled flight: at the boarding gate of a US airport, on the airline's website, and on its telephone reservation line if you call. If you subscribed to that airline's flight-status alerts, it must also send the notice by a channel it offers and you chose, such as email, text, or an app alert. Under 14 CFR 260.9 the airline must also timely tell affected passengers about the cancellation and about any alternative to a refund, and tell passengers who are owed a refund that they have that right. Check the airline website or app with your confirmation, call the reservation line, and look at the gate display on the day you travel. DelayGuard's 1.41% figure is a historical rate for 2024 to 2025. It is not a live notice that your flight is cancelled.
What are my rights if a US airline cancels my flight?
After a US airline cancellation, you can decline the alternative flight and get an automatic cash refund of the unused ticket. Meals and hotels are voluntary airline commitments listed on the US Department of Transportation's customer service dashboard, not a requirement under a compensation law.
